Language, Science, and Math Online Placement Exam Registration FAQs

  1. What if I do not see an exam listed that I would like to register for?

    2. The application will display the online exams that are available to you, based on your class year and the time of year. Keep in mind that you may only register for online placement exams (not on-campus placement exams) through this application. Please visit the Placement Exams website for additional information.   2. I am an incoming first year student who wants to take an online placement exam. Do I need to register for it?

    3. No, all freshmen are automatically registered for all the online placement exams.

  3. How do I request an extension for an online exam?

    4. You may request an extension before the end of the exam period for an exam for which you are registered. Select the Request Extension button to the right of the exam name and follow the instructions on the screen.

  4. How do I request an exception for an online exam?

    5. For a strong and compelling reason, you may request an exception before the end of the exam period for an exam for which you are registered. Select the Request Exception button to the right of the exam name and follow the instructions on the screen.

  5. I requested an extension or an exception. When will I hear back?

    6. In most instances, you will be notified about the status of your request within a week.

  6. How do I request disability accommodations for an online exam?

  7. My exam expired before I finished it. How do I request it be re-activated?

    8. Contact the IT help desk at ithelp@harvard.edu to request the exam be restarted. Please include the reason you need the exam re-activated.

  8. How do I register for an exam administered by a department?

    9. For information about departmental exams (all language exams excluding French, German, Italian, and Spanish), please see the placement exams website. On this website you will find exam dates, registration and contact information and other important information.

  9. I completed the Mathematics Part I exam, but my computer crashed (or my internet connection failed) before I could start Part II or Part III. What do I do?

    10. Contact the IT help desk at ithelp@harvard.edu to request that Parts II and III be restarted. Please include the reason you need the exam re-activated.

  10. I was unable to take the exam by the extension date I requested. What do I do?

    11. You may request another extension provided the exam period has not ended.

  11. The exam period is over, and I want to take an exam. What do I do?

    12. Please contact placement-help@fas.harvard.edu; only in rare circumstances are students allowed to take online placements exams after the exam period.
